Dr. Heidi Horsley, Executive Director
Dr. Heidi Horsley is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Open to Hope Foundation.? She is an internationally known grief expert, author,?and bereaved sibling.?Dr. Horsley?is a licensed Psychologist and Social Worker.?In addition, she?hosts the syndicated internet radio show, ?Healing the Grieving Heart at www.thegriefblog.com. She has appeared on ABC?s 20/20, been quoted in the Washington Post & the New York Daily News, as well as several other media print and has been interviewed on numerous radio shows. Dr. Horsley is an Adjunct Professor at Columbia University School of Social Work, and has a private practice www.DrHeidiHorsley.com.? Since 2002 she has worked in a research and clinical capacity for the FDNY/Columbia University Family Guidance Program; a study providing ongoing intervention to families of firefighters killed in the World Trade Center. She?has also?conducted workshops for 9/11 bereaved siblings. She has written numerous articles and is co-author of Real Men Do Cry: A Quarterback?s Inspiring Story of Tackling Depression and Surviving Suicide Loss, and Teen Grief Relief: Parenting with Understanding Support and Guidance. Dr. Horsley is listed in Who?s Who in America, Madison Who?s Who, and the World Who?s Who of Women.
Dr. Horsley gives presentations and workshops throughout the country, and teaches continuing education workshops for health care professionals on the psychological treatment of loss.? Her academic credentials include a doctorate in psychology (PsyD) from the University of San Francisco; and a masters degree in social work (LMSW) from Columbia University, and in mental health counseling (MS) from Loyola University in New Orleans.
Neil Chethik, Executive Editor
Previously, Neil was a staff reporter for the Tallahassee Democrat and San Jose Mercury News, and writer of ?VoiceMale,? the first syndicated column on men’s personal lives. His writings have appeared in hundreds of print and web publications. He is currently Writer-in-Residence at the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning in Lexington, Ky., where he lives with his wife, Kelly Flood, and son, Evan.
He is the author of two acclaimed books: VoiceMale: What Husbands Really Think About Their Marriages, Their Wives, Sex, Housework and Commitment (Simon & Schuster 2006), and FatherLoss: How Sons of All Ages Come To Terms With the Deaths of Their Dads (Hyperion 2001).
Irene Conlan, M.S.N., Ph.D., C.Ht., Editor, The Grief Blog
Irene taught in the College of Nursing at Arizona State University, served as Administrator of Nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital in Phoenix and as Assistant Director of the Arizona State Department of Health Services. She has written three books (now out of print) and has spoken to women’s groups across the country.
She currently has a part time hypnotherapy practice and manages The Grief Blog. She understands bereavement. She lost her first grandson when he was two days old and was caregiver for her fianc? who died of Lou Gehrig’s disease. Irene delights in her two sons and her three grandsons.
Heather Horsley Johnson is no stranger to loss; at the age of 14, she lost both a brother and a cousin in a tragic car accident. She in currently the Newsletter Editor for The Open to Hope Foundation. She has a BS in Elementary Education and spends much of her time working in the local schools and has a love of children and learning. She has served on the board of trustees at The Colby School, as well as helped raise funds and support for this not-for-profit school.
Heather resides in the mountains of Park City, Utah, with her husband of 18 years, Shawn, and 4 children. Heather feels most full and content in the mountains. She is a great lover of the outdoors and finds time to meditate in nature.

Christopher Conlan, Development Director
Christopher is Managing Director of Kaboodle Ventures, and founder of The Blog Mill, as well as developer of over 400 Web 2.0 websites, social networks and directories.? In addition to his responsibilities with Open to Hope he spends the majority of his time whiteboarding mashups, optimizing websites for search engines, digging in the garden,? playing baseball with his son Jack, or trying to answer the seemingly eternal question “Why Daddy?“
