Festival of Healing Event Set for Delaware in November
The Grief Awareness Consortium of Delaware was started by Supporting Kidds in January of 2009 to heighten awareness about grief in the community and help individuals learn to cope and heal. Our mission is:
- · To express solidarity with people who are grieving
- · To increase general knowledge of the grieving process
- · To increase communication and opportunities for public, communal expression of grief
As of today, we have more than 60 members representing over 40 organizations in Delaware from schools to hospices to hospitals. This year we have two primary goals which we are successfully implementing: 1) Gov. Markell has proclaimed Nov 1-7 Grief Awareness Week in the State of Delaware and 2) our signature event called “Expressing Grief: A Festival of Healing Through the Arts.”
The Festival of Healing will take place on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 in Newark, Delaware. We believe the arts can lift the spirits of those that grieve and help them process their complex emotions in a variety of constructive and healing ways. The event will consist of:
Art Activities: Create your own artistic expressions of grief
Art Show: View grief-inspired creations from artists of all ages
Grief Education: Learn about healthy grieving via talks, videos, demonstrations
Solitude Room: Spent time in a quiet place for contemplation and remembrance
Resource Tables: Learn about Delaware organizations and written materials that can help you and your family in times of grief
Closing Ritual: Commemorate the lives and deaths of those we love.
