Dr. Sandler is the co-developer of the Family bereavement Program, which was found to reduce distressing long-term grief and mental health problems and of both the children and their surviving parent up to 15 years later. He is particularly interested in the role of parenting as a resilience resource for bereaved children. Dr. Sandler received the outstanding contribution to research award from the Association for Death Education and Counseling, as well as multiple other awards for his work.
